What the Screening Involves
The screening takes just a few minutes and causes no discomfort. Dr. Velkovski visually examines the soft tissues inside and around your mouth, looking for unusual spots, discoloration, lumps, or sores that do not heal normally. If anything looks irregular, he will advise on next steps – which may include a referral for a biopsy or further evaluation. The screening is included as part of every routine exam at no additional cost.
Who Should Be Screened
Everyone who receives dental care at Twin Oaks Dental Studio receives an oral cancer screening at every exam. Patients with known risk factors – including tobacco use, heavy alcohol consumption, and HPV exposure – are at elevated risk, but oral cancer can develop in patients with no traditional risk factors at all. Consistent annual screenings are the most reliable way to catch tissue changes before they progress to something serious.
