Preventative Dentistry in Bloomfield, MI
Preventative dentistry is the foundation of everything we do at Twin Oaks Dental Studio. Dr. Velkovski believes the best dental work is the work you never need – and consistent preventative care is how we get there together.
What Is Preventative Dentistry?
Preventative dentistry is the branch of care focused on maintaining oral health and stopping problems before they develop. At Twin Oaks Dental Studio in West Bloomfield, this means professional cleanings, thorough exams, oral cancer screenings, and protective treatments like sealants – all working together to keep your teeth and gums healthy long-term.
Why Preventative Care Matters
Catching a small cavity early costs a fraction of what a crown costs later. Identifying gum disease in its first stages avoids the bone loss that comes with advanced periodontal disease. Every six months you come in, Dr. Velkovski is not just cleaning your teeth – he is giving your oral health a checkpoint that could save you significant time, money, and discomfort down the road.
Our Preventative Services
Exams and Cleanings
Professional cleanings twice a year remove buildup that brushing cannot and give Dr. Velkovski a consistent record of your oral health over time.
Oral Cancer Screenings
A quick, painless visual check at every exam that can catch abnormal tissue changes early - when they are most treatable.
Dental Sealants
A thin protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth to block the bacteria and acids that cause cavities where toothbrush bristles cannot reach.
Brushing Tips
Personalized guidance on technique, toothbrush selection, and timing so what you do at home actually makes a real difference between visits.

Preventative Dentistry FAQ's
How often should I come in for a cleaning?
For most patients, twice a year is the right interval. Patients with a history of gum disease or heavy buildup may benefit from visits every three to four months. Dr. Velkovski will advise on the schedule that makes the most sense for your oral health history and risk profile.
What happens during a dental exam?
Dr. Velkovski reviews your X-rays, checks each tooth for signs of decay, evaluates your gum health, assesses your bite and jaw, and performs an oral cancer screening. You will leave knowing exactly what he found and what – if anything – needs attention.
Is preventative dentistry covered by insurance?
Most PPO dental insurance plans cover preventative care at 100% or close to it – including exams, cleanings, and X-rays. Our team verifies your coverage before your appointment so you know what to expect before you arrive.
What if I have not been to the dentist in a few years?
That is more common than you might think, and there is no judgment here. We will do a thorough assessment, take any X-rays needed, and build a plan from wherever your oral health currently stands. The most important step is simply coming in.
Do you see kids for preventative care?
Yes. Twin Oaks Dental Studio serves patients of all ages. Dr. Velkovski recommends starting dental visits around age one or when the first tooth appears and making preventative care a consistent routine from the very beginning.
