Endodontics in Bloomfield, MI
Endodontic treatment is how we save teeth that are infected or severely damaged from the inside. At Twin Oaks Dental Studio in West Bloomfield, Dr. Velkovski performs root canal therapy and related procedures in-house – using cone beam CT imaging to plan complex cases with precision before treatment begins.
What Is Endodontics?
Endodontics is the branch of dentistry focused on the soft tissue inside the tooth – the pulp, which contains nerves and blood vessels. When that tissue becomes infected or inflamed due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma, endodontic treatment removes it, cleans and seals the canal space, and saves the tooth. At Twin Oaks Dental Studio, this is done with CBCT imaging for precise root anatomy mapping and same-day crown delivery via CEREC.
Why Endodontic Care Matters
An infected tooth does not improve on its own. Left untreated, the infection spreads to surrounding bone and tissue, causes increasingly severe pain, and eventually results in tooth loss. Saving the natural tooth through endodontic treatment preserves your bite, maintains bone density, and avoids the time and cost of a tooth replacement like an implant or bridge down the road.

Apicoectomy
A minor surgical procedure that removes the tip of the root and seals it when a previous root canal has not fully resolved the infection.
Abscess Removal
Treatment for a bacterial pocket that has formed inside or around the root, causing severe pain, swelling, and sometimes fever.
Internal Bleaching
Brightens a tooth that has darkened after root canal treatment from the inside out - a result that external whitening cannot achieve.

Endodontics FAQ's
Does a root canal hurt?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia, so it should not be painful. What most people associate with root canal pain is actually the infection itself – which the procedure resolves. Most patients feel significantly better within a few days of treatment.
How long does a root canal take?
Most root canals at Twin Oaks Dental Studio are completed in one appointment lasting 60 to 90 minutes. A crown is often placed the same day using CEREC, so you leave with a fully restored tooth in a single visit.
What happens if I skip a root canal?
Without treatment, a tooth infection does not resolve on its own. It spreads, causes worsening pain and swelling, and can lead to bone loss and eventual loss of the tooth. Early treatment is always a simpler, less costly solution than waiting.
What is the difference between a root canal and an apicoectomy?
A root canal treats infection from the top of the tooth down through the canal. An apicoectomy approaches from the tip of the root and is used when a root canal has not fully cleared the infection or when retreatment from above is not practical.
Can I drive home after a root canal?
Yes, in most cases. Root canals are performed under local anesthesia, which does not require sedation. Most patients are comfortable driving themselves home after the appointment is complete.
